Alone In The Morning
Haibun
Sensations. The gurgle of the coffee maker. The hum of the refrigerator. The banging of the pipes as the heat turns on. My reflection off the storm door. The grainy patterns of manufactured scratches on the “grandma’s” kitchen table. The ticking of the clock on the soffit above the entryway. The lingering taste of butter, a plain bagel, an over easy egg, a hot cup of coffee with milk and sugar substitute.
Thoughts. Avicius’ “Wake me up.” Remembering of Mom at Nyack Hospital. Imagining her taking her last breath, her wake and funeral, the distribution of her property, guardianship of my brother.
I am not ready for any of it!
