Alleyways
One step, and a thick, warm fog wraps around me.
My head swims; my eyes grow heavy.
I can barely see- everything is blurry.
I know that I’ve been here before,
And in my haze, I somewhat remember:
I planned to avoid this alley for just this reason-
But here I am.
A calm, a delicious softness fills this space
This alcove between streets that knows no time
No consequences
I’ve walked slowly, but alas, I still arrive
Into the cold night air at the end-
Onto the road back to reality.
I look back as the lines grow sharper and vow to never lose my head again.
I turn up my collar and walk away.
Until next time.
