Borrowed People

People walking in borrowed shoes on borrowed ground
Will show no difference in the past
or future of the universe
in my life or another’s.
Should I stand directly in the path of another
I or he will eventually step aside,
no matter the nature of the interaction,
with an “excuse me”
and continue walking.
Was I in the way? Or was he?
Or were we both just in a way,
a borrowed way of watching,
of walking
towards something,
or maybe nothing.
