Eyeblink
Poem
The fur around her neck stirs in a puff of chill wind
Each hair covered in glistening drops of frost.
Her eyes look up as the birds pass by overhead.
Their silence mimicking the muffledness
Like voices heard underwater.
A tear turns to ice as it leaves her eye,
Cold fingers clutching a coin.
Warm days are but a distant dream now.
Colors; Grey and Blue.
Crisp morning sun eaten up by gloom.
A low canopy of cloud encloses the city
As if it is its own world.
The puddles of ice she passes by
Mirroring the sky overheard;
Twin worlds linked by reflection.
Just one soul among a million others,
Beating warm beneath the winter wraps.
Her mind filled with thoughts, memories, dreams,
Like all the others.
Aware, alive; at the same moment dying,
In this single eye-blink in all of time.
