Vision
Poem
“I still don’t see it.”
He sighed. Trying to stay patient, he pointed again.
I looked in the direction he indicated,
But my vision ended at his fingertip.
He rubbed his temples.
“Maybe this will help.” He produced a cloth.
He walked forward purposefully,
And wiped fiercely at the square before us.
Stepping back, he smiled and proclaimed,
“Voila!” But his joy faded at my squint,
And his eyes flashed with anger.
“I don’t believe you want to see.”
I quivered. “I do! I do! More than anything!”
Timorously, I began to walk to the frame.
He paused, watching as I made the attempt.
Closer and closer, I fought fear with each step.
I reached my destination, and there,
I perceived my own reflection, in unexpected splendor.
Softly, he slipped behind me, “You see?”
I touched the glass, he and me. “I see.”
